You probably won’t find too many people who will argue that the world is in a good place - everything as it is intended to be.  Most will agree that there is something wrong and if you listen closely to their stories - everyone has an idea of what can make it right - what can redeem the world.  You’ll hear lots about government or technology or humanity being THE fix we can count on.  John takes us to the conversation that Mary and Martha had with Jesus after the death of their brother Lazarus to show us who it is that can put the world right … Jesus - fully God and at the same time fully human.

In His conversation with Martha - Jesus shows us a glimpse of His divine power - He’s God.  But in the His conversation with Mary - which takes place moments later - He breaks down at the impact of Mary’s grief over her brother’s death.  He feels the horror of death and grieves the lost loved one.  He is fully and totally human.    Here is the almighty and vulnerability and it’s exactly who we need most.  A minister of truth and tears.  Lion and Lamb.  Jesus did not come to earth with a sword in His hands to rid it of evil - He came with nails in His hands - not to bring judgement but to bear it.
