When we focus on the younger son in The Prodigal Son we see a young man who alienates himself from his father and in our minds the story is about the assurance of Jesus’ unconditional love to those who wander.  While that is true - there are actually two sons in this story.  The father has to invite both sons into his banquet because both have alienated themselves from the father in an attempt to be in control of their lives - one by being very bad and the other by being very good.

Jesus refines our understanding of rebellion as well as our understanding of grace.
