Many of the things people resist about church and Christians are things that church and Christians should have resisted. The Religious Model was focused on sacred buildings, sacred men, and sacred writings. Jesus began a new movement - of people - by initiating a new covenant or new relationship with God based on His work not ours. He gave us just one new command that’s less complicated but far more demanding.
As we consider our vertical love for God is illustrated and demonstrated by our horizontal love for others - let's consider 4 terms that Jesus redefined or revolutionized and imagine if every Christian engaged people instead of simply attending a church gathering. Imagine if every Christian used his or her authority on behalf of others. Imagine if every Christian asked, “What does Jesus love require of me?” It would change us and impact the people God loves - the world.
