What do you do when there’s nothing you can do to change your situation? Challenging circumstances can make us jealous or resentful. They can make us angry … and that includes anger with God. Discontentment can breed in that environment. The problem with discontentment is that it can drive us in self-destructive directions that will eventually leave us with regret.
The Apostle Paul writes a letter to friends while he's in prison - hoping to encourage them in some way. He writes about the secret to contentment “in the meantime” - when circumstances press against us and anything but contentment is what we feel. Is it possible to be content in any and every circumstance? Yes! And Paul is a living example of someone who has experienced many a Desert season of life and he tells us the foundation of "internal sufficiency" and who it comes from.
